Staten Island, NY Third Alarm Box 4131 Arthur Kill Rd. and Allentown Ln. Large area of brush, abandoned autos and abandoned water craft. There was a safety concern about fighting the fire on an abandoned barge. After discussion between Battalion 22, The Special Operations Chief , the Safety Battalion and members of Rescue 5, it was determined to use a Stang nozzle rather than risk members' safetyby advancing a hand line. Fire photos taken at approx. 1630 hrs.
Boston, MA 2nd Alarm Box 3743 5/12/99 0230 hrs. 1247 Hyde Park Avenue, Block of stores, containing Dry Cleaning Establishment, Chinese Food Restaurant and U.S. Post Office.
Brockton, MA 5/28/99 4 Alarms 660 Main Street Vacant 2 story commercial building, formerly a furniture store. Initially, the first arriving companies reported heavy fire conditions with exposure problems.
Commack, NY approx 1600 hrs. 6/5/99. A fire that involved a large area of brush, and a pile of abandoned tires required the reponse of multiple communities to be brought under control. AFFF firefighting foam was utilized to supress the tires that were on fire.
Hampton Beach, NH approx 1430 hrs. 6/16/99. Photos taken approx 1745 hrs. 6/16/99. 20 Engines, 9 Ladders and 6 rescue Companies from 23 Communities in three states responded for a fire that involved three large three story buildings.
Brockton, MA, approx. 1600 hrs. 6/18/99 Box 4125, 8 Arthur Av. 3 Alarms plus two special called engines were required to bring a fire in a large (approx. 125x60) 3 story wood frame structure under control. The fire was on floors 2 and 3 and in the cockloft. Fire conditions quickly took full posession of the third floor and all companies were ordered out of the building, and an exterior attack made.
Boston, MA 7/1/99 Box 3731 10 Park Street (Hyde Park Section) Approx. 1900 hrs. Fire in a two story wood frame structure approx. 35X60 was brought under control quickly by the first alarm assignment.
New Bedford, MA Brook St. & Sawyer St. Approx 1400 hrs. 7/28/99. A General Alarm in a large factory type building. The fire is suspected to have originated in a pile of pallettes adjacent to the building. Photos Taken Approx. 1730 hrs. I apologize for the quality of these photos, but the New Bedford FD and PD did not extend the professional courtesies that I normally enjoy at fire scenes, and was kept well away from the scene.
Holyoke, MA Approximately 2015 hrs 8/29/99. A General Alarm fire that started in two 5 story abandoned apartment buildings quickly spread to engulf an entire city block, including the two 5 story apartment buildings, a church rectory, a church, a 3 story apartment building and a 3 story attached rowhouse. These photos are from approximately 2300 hrs 8/29/99 to 0130 hrs 8/30/99. (Holyoke is about 100 miles from my home in Boston, and it took some time to get out there.) The grainy photos are photos that were taken without a flash, and then lightened on the computer.
Raynham, MA Approx. 2130 hours 9/3/99. equivalent of a third alarm for a block of stores in the 700 block of Broadway (Route 138). Mutual aid from many surrounding towns was called in to control the fire before it entered the end building, a welding gas supply company. Photos taken 2200-2300 hrs.
Manhattan, NY approx. 1000 hrs. 11/28/99 34th Street Heliport. FDNY and NYPD Units conducted a joint Hi-Rise Operations Drill.
