Newton, MA approx. 0140 hrs. 11/30/02.  Box 562, 8 Pilgrim Rd.  A fire in a 1 story addition threatened to extend to a 2-1/2 story wood frame house.  A second alarm was transmitted by first arriving companies, and firefighters fought slippery conditions and heavy fire conditions to bring the fire under control.  The home was undergoing renovations, and the floors had recently been refinished, by a company that was willing to work over the Thanksgiving Day holiday, not the contractor performing the renovations.

Medford, MA 1454 hrs. 11/10/02 Box 362, 640 Fellsway.  Responding to an alarm activation, Engine 4 reported heavy smoke showing from a large 100 X 100 store (A.C. Moore).  Second and third alarms were quickly struck, and an aggressive attack was made to prevent lateral extension to other stores located in the strip mall, which is about 800 X 100.

Medford, MA Approximately 1440 hrs. 10/6/02  Box 344, 10 Amaranth Avenue.  Medford Engine 4 had been stilled for an outside fire at the rear of an adjacent property when they noticed that the actual fire was on the roof of a large 2 story commercial building.  They immediately called to have a box transmitted and started to the fire location.  Due to the geography of the area, they had to respond approximately one mile, as the fire building, although only 50 yards away, was separated by railroad tracks abutted by overgrown brush.  A second alarm was transmitted by the Deputy Chief based upon Engine 4's initial report, and crews from Medford and Malden worked to contain the fire to materials on the roof.

Medford, MA Approximately 0130 hrs. 10/1/02 15 Irving St.  A fire that reportedly started in a 2nd floor laundry room quickly spread to take full possession of the upper floors of a large 2-1/2 story wood frame structure.  The Deputy Chief transmitted a second alarm upon his arrival, and a third alarm shortly thereafter.  Mutual aid companies from Arlington, Malden, Somerville and Cambridge assisted at the fire. My digital camera would not work for a reason immediately unknown (eventually I found that it was low voltage in my flash batteries), so these are scanned photos from prints.
